Dear Parents/Guardians of BBBST Program Participants:
In honor of an avid supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle, a very special scholarship fund was created specifically for Littles pursuing higher education. The Brenda Boyd Big Brothers Big Sisters Scholarship is designed to help Little’s who are graduating or have graduated, within the last three years, from high school and enrolling/attending a 2 year or 4-year accredited college, university program or trade school within the state of North Carolina.
The scholarship is intended to assist Little’s financial need and who are confident about their academic success. The average amount of the funds awarded is between $500 and $2,500; scholarship awards are to be used for college related expenses and all award checks are payable to the Little’s intended institution. It is open to little’s who are graduating high school this year and those who have graduated in the last three years (2015-2018).
To apply for the scholarship, the following items are required:
__ Completed Scholarship Application
__ Copy of High School Transcript/GPA
__ Applicant’s Personal Written Narrative
__ Copy of submitted FASFA
__ Copy of College Acceptance letter or Letter of Intent
__ 2 Recommendations (1- Big Brother/Big Sister Mentor & 1- Individual of your choice)

Recommendations are a very important part of this application. A recommendation from your Big Brother/Big Sister mentor is required; however, you may choose another individual (such as a teacher, advisor or counselor) to complete your second recommendation form. Be sure to select someone who (knows you well and is not a relative) can describe your adversity and your desire to better yourself through further education.

Please contact Mrs. Andie Thomas-Young, Vice President of Programs via email at ayoung@bbbstri.org , with any questions and to receive the application forms. The deadline for all required materials must be received by May 31, 2018; so please reach out ASAP
