Big meets Little.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organization that seeks to serve children ages 6-14 facing adversity by providing them with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the Triangle community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving:

•      Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships

•      Avoidance of risky behaviors

•      Educational success

How a Big becomes a Big—and a Little, a Little

What’s a Big and Little to do?

Each match is unique. Getting together doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activity—just a few hours every month doing things the Little and Big already enjoy. For example:

  • Playing catch
  • Reading books
  • Getting ice cream
  • Going to a museum
  • Providing advice and inspiration

Can a couple be a Big?

A couple may be matched with one Little.  As a couple, you have the ability to offer twice as many new experiences and skills.   80% of our Littles come from a single parent home, so couples offer the unique opportunity to expose Littles to a new way to approach communication and social interaction. Littles also reap the rewards of bonding with two positive adults. Couples have the benefit of supporting one another to strengthen the quality of the match. The couple can go out with the Little together or split the time. We encourage couples to work together from their own set of strengths. One may be great at tutoring and offering academic support, while the other may be great at active activities. In turn, the Little reaps the rewards of a full and more balanced experience.
