GSK Summer Camp

By |June 6th, 2019|

The theme for the 2019 GSK Science in the Summer Camp is the Science of Me!  From the building blocks of life to organ systems, youth will develop a deeper understanding of the human body.  During the camp sessions, a licensed teacher/instructor and an assistant instructor teach curriculum; they will spend time exploring human biology through activities and experiments.

GSK Science in the Summer Camp is facilitated August 5-9, 2019, at the corporate office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle (808 Aviation Parkway Suite 900 Morrisville NC 27560).  The camp structure allows youth to attend each day (5 days total) for three hours per day.  Parents/guardians are required to sign in/out campers, upon arriving and departing from the sessions; pick-up of campers should occur immediately following the end of each session.  Although the camp does not provide lunch, a light snack is served during each session (provided by the camp instructors); please alert instructors of allergies and dietary restrictions.

Please complete this form and return to  Andie Thomas Young (ayoung@bbbstri.org) by June 21st

Please feel free to contact Andie Thomas Young with any additional questions, Monday through Friday 9-5pm,  by telephone at (919) 850-9772, ext. 101 and email at ayoung@bbbstri.org

Big Promoters

By |June 6th, 2019|

Become a “Big” Promoter

Who were your Heroes Growing Up?
  • Who did you admire when you were in grade school? In junior high? In high school? Why?
  • Who did you want to be like you grew up?
  • What did you want to do when you grew up? Why?
  • Who made the most impact on your life besides your parents and other family members?

Hopefully you took a moment to reflect on the questions above.  Where would you be without caring adults, mentors, and role models in your life?  Each one of us has an opportunity to Inspire, Ignite, and Empower the next generation of young people through mentorship, advocacy or both.

We are always looking for mentors but this year we are also looking for advocates to become “Big Promoters” that will help us recruit more Bigs in 2019.  Recruitment of mentors is a collective process. Bigs sharing their stories and their experiences as well as promoting the importance of mentorship could go a long way in helping us find mentors for the young people waiting for their next Hero in the form of a mentor.  Would you like to become an official Promoter with BBBST?
