Grants & Development Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Grants & Development Coordinator will focus on researching corporate, foundation and government grant opportunities as well as writing grant proposals and grant reports. The emphasis of this position will be to prepare compelling grant applications for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle’s (BBBST) strategic priorities. As part of the Development team, Grant Coordinator will also assist with fundraising events, donor prospecting and stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, cultivate and develop proposals for a diverse portfolio of corporate, private and family foundations and government entities (municipal, state, and federal) whose giving interests match the strategic priorities of BBBST.
  • Research, cultivate and solicit new corporate and foundation prospects and to help manage stewardship of these prospects to ensure their continued support.
  • Serves as a liaison between BBBST and granting agencies; attends occasional check presentations, site visits and speaking engagements.
  • Works with key BBBST staff to identify the strategic and tactical needs that may be appropriate for grant support.
  • Secure multi-year grants from foundations and government entities to ensure the financial strength of the organization.
  • Project manage the grant-seeking process, including working with staff to make sure that all proposal and report deadlines are met.
  • Tracks progress and provides appropriate updates and reports to grant-making entities and key BBBST staff.
  • Help execute annual fundraising and communications plans that align with organizational fundraising objectives
  • Conduct prospect research including calls to qualify potential donors to determine capacity and inclination to give.
  • Maintain knowledge of current planned giving opportunities; use knowledge in prospect cultivation and solicitation working with Director of Development and CEO as appropriate.
  • Participate in preparation, execution and promotion of agency wide fundraising events (including but not limited to: Bowl For Kids’ Sake & Big Night Ball, includes pre-prep / wrap-up activities and participating in all actions needed to ensure a successful outcome, to include some weekend and evening engagements)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Ability to develop and produce grants and other proposals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of current developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to determine informational needs, to collect and analyze information, and to devise and develop statistical analyses and reports.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Database management skills.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of potential sources of grant funding.

Hours

  • FT: 40 hours a week

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2-3 years’ work experience in grant writing or related field. Success in writing and securing federal grants is considered a plus;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and time management skills;
  • A demonstrated ability to write accurately, persuasively, concisely, and technically;
  • Ability to set priorities and manage grant development strategies from conception through coordination and cultivation to completion;
  • Ability to work effectively with many different personality types as well as work independently

Job Type: Full-time

Salary range $36,000-$40,000
